Miami (AP) — Jimmy Butler showcased a striking new appearance at Media Day, immediately capturing the attention of the NBA world.
The Miami Heat forward made his debut on the team’s first official workday of the season adorned with piercings – in his eye, lip, and nose. He also sported a fresh hairstyle and black-painted fingernails.
This unconventional style seems to be a recurring trend for Butler. Last year, he surprised everyone during Media Day by sporting dreadlocks, a departure from his usual look.
Butler expressed his emotions, saying, “I’m feeling very emotional right now. This is my emo state, and I embrace it. This is me, and it reflects how I’ve been feeling lately.”
Teammates appeared to be taken aback by the transformation. Heat center Bam Adebayo, who had not seen Butler before meeting with reporters, thought someone had manipulated photos when shown pictures of Butler’s new look.
“That can’t be real… That’s absolutely hilarious,” Adebayo exclaimed.
It remains uncertain whether Butler will maintain this look as Miami kicks off practice on Tuesday. The team’s training camp will be held at Florida Atlantic University in nearby Boca Raton.
