Google news to introduce animated emoticons feature
Google is reportedly testing an “animated emoticon” feature in its instant messaging app Google Messages. However, the animations only seem to work when sending a single emoji, as reported by Android Police. Sending multiple emoticons or a combination of text and emoticons will not trigger the animation. This feature was originally discovered by a Reddit user named BruthaBeige. Subsequently, an Android expert named Mishaal Rahman received a tip regarding the feature and another user confirmed its existence in replies.
Currently, this feature does not appear to be available to all users, suggesting that it may be part of a region-restricted rollout. This suggests that Google is likely testing the feature with a limited audience before a wider release.
To maintain clarity in large group chats, the platform has also introduced a message citation feature that allows users to quote specific messages when replying, ensuring that conversations remain focused on specific topics or individuals.
Another notable addition is the ability to edit and delete messages, which is already available to Chat users. This feature allows users to edit or delete sent messages without additional costs or restrictions.
